Sennosides, hydroxyanthracene glycosides derived from Senna as a calcium salts;pale brownish hygroscopic powder;soluble in water & alcohol. The chemical designation is 5,5'-bis(beta-D-gulcopyranosyloxy)-9,9',10,10'- tetra hydro-4,4'-dihydroxy-10,10'-dioxo [9,9'-bianthracene]-2,2'-dicarboxylic acid calcium salt and molecular formula is C42H36CaO20.

| Calcium Sennosides is extracted from the leaves of Cassia Angustifolia.
Senna is a shrub that reaches 0.5-1 meters, rarely two meters in height with branched pale green erect stem, long spreading branches, bearing four or five pairs of leaves. These are complex feathery mutual pairs. The leaflets are varying from 4 to 6 pairs, fully edged, with a sharp top. |

| Senna is native to tropical Africa but now cultivated extensively in South of India, Egypt ,Sudan & Pakistan. It is grown from seeds. The leaves are picked before or while plant is in flower and pods are collected when they are ripe. |

| Sennosides work through a stimulation of intestinal peristalsis. Sennosides irritate the lining of large intestine and increase its motility. Senna Extracts has shown effective results in constipation. |

- Sennosides is also used for treatment of other ailments like, anemia, typhoid, cholera, jaundice,
rheumatism, gout, tumors, probably in leprosy, in splenic enlargement, foul breath and bronchitis
- Sennosides also exert good effect in the treatment of amoebic dysentery and a mild liver stimulant
- It is effective in constipation, thermogenic, cathartic, liver tonic, abdominal disorders, leucoderma, splenomegaly, hepatomegaly, dyspepsia, cough and skin disorders

| Dosage |

| The usual oral dosage of Sennosides in adults and children of 12 years of age and older is 12–50 mg once or twice daily. |
